Pila Update July 2025

The Pila team celebrated independence day one day early on July 3, with the arrival of our latest revision of battery design! We’re hard at work getting ready to ship units to our first customers later this year.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain of building this category-defining battery system…

🛠️ Build Update

Our wonderful engineering team is deep in the weeds testing everything. From mechanical, electrical, firmware and software, they’re making sure every part of Pila is bulletproof as part of our rigorous product safety standard testing.

That includes abuse tests. Yep – we’ve been dropping the Pila Battery from extreme heights onto concrete to ensure durability and safety under any condition. Great news – we passed!

This month, our Software team has made strides in development of our first-of-a-kind Mesh communication layer, with Beta testing underway.

And finally, after weeks of early user testing, the team is excitedly refreshing the Pila App with more features and an easier-to-use interface. You’re going to love it!

📣 Getting the Word Out

Cole stopped by the DER Task Force offices in NYC last month for a lively and wide-ranging podcast interview about distributed energy. They discussed the overlooked importance of good design, why energy resilience shouldn’t be a luxury – and how Pila empowers customers to tap into “permissionless” (but safe) backup power.

We also sat down with the folks at CleanTechies this month to discuss the state of building a deeptech startup in 2025, and how Pila is borrowing best practices when it comes to building our team.
